About Me

Hello! I am Dr. Melanee Sonrisa D. Allego, DACM, an artist, healer, creator, and owner of Viodiama Artistry, LLC. On July 11, 2024, I launched Viodiama Artistry as a divine vessel of creative expression for art, jungle funk fashion, Chinese Medicine, and spirituality. I share my nature-inspired artwork, vibrant fashion style, spiritual transformations, and my knowledge of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine as a way to create connection and provide collective healing for all. My message is clear: By following a heart-centered approach to life, we are able to cultivate self-love and follow our most joyful passions. Through the process of creating art and connecting with nature, we naturally align our mind, body, and spirit, and connect with our divine truth and authentic light.

Art

I am a proponent of the creative arts as a powerful method of healing. Growing up in a Filipino family of healers and artists, I was nurtured in artistic expression and medicinal knowledge. My father, a physician and a well-known published poet in the Philippines, started Bathalad, a poetry group, while attending medical school in Cebu, Philippines. My mother, a nurse and dancer, supported my dance training. My elder sister grew up painting, drawing, and completed her Master's in Graphic Design, and my elder brother received dance training and is now a writer and film maker.

Dance

The Royale Ballet dance studio in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was my first dance family and where I learned ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. We all loved and supported one another, celebrating each others' individual artistic abilities and innovative expressions. We competed nationally as a team and won First Place Over-All at Nationals in Orlando, Florida and where my brother choreographed a tap routine that won 3rd Place Over-All.

Moving to Chicago in 2003 was a pivotal moment for me as an artist. During my Freshman year, I had decided to quit the DePaul University Division 1 tennis team, and instead, followed my passion for dancing and joined Dunco Funk, a Hip-Hop and Miami Funk dance crew that performed all-over the city. One of the biggest treasures of Chicago was discovering House Music, which felt completely aligned with my mind, body, and spirit. The love and inclusiveness of the Chicago House Music culture gave me awareness of the happiness that I felt in my heart while dancing as an individual and collectively with others as a community on the dancefloor. I felt divine love and oneness with House Music, myself, and with others. I was also incredibly blessed with the opportunity to study and perform House Music Dance under the mentorship of Chicago House Music dance pioneer, choreographer, and philosopher, Boogie McClarin. I also spent time training, teaching, and choreographing in Manila and Cebu City, Philippines, as well as working with Filipino boyband, Boys Overload. Upon returning to Chicago, I performed several freestyle dance gigs all across the city and joined B.I.S.I. Chicago Dance Company in 2013 for acro, ballet, jazz, and hip-hop routines.

DJ

My journey with DJing began during my second year of medical school. My friend and House Music DJ, DJ Adrien, first taught me how to spin vinyl records on Technics 1200's Turntables. Anytime that I was stressed out in my life, I found myself asking my friend if I could DJ on their turntables. My first spiritual moment with DJing on turntables was when I could feel in my body the energetic synchronization of two vinyl records coming together in unison from both sides of my body and exiting from my chest energetically as one new song. It was a powerful moment that I felt I became one with the energy of the new song.

During the first year of the pandemic, I decided to follow my passion and buy Technics Turntables. By luck, I answered a Craigslist ad and was blessed with the opportunity to buy a complete set of two Technics 1200s Turntables, a mixer, speakers, shelves, and crates of House Music and Techno vinyls! Being alone and often times stressed from medical school, I found peace, connection, and oneness when playing my turntables. Experimenting and mixing different genres opened doors of infinite and expansive creativity within me that helped to balance my mind, body, and spirit.

After graduating medical school in May 2024, I traveled to my motherland, Bantayan Island, Philippines. Through the connection of a relative, I was able to be a guest DJ on JCAD Radio Station for one month playing Disco, House Music, Funk, and Techno. I also was able to guest DJ at Xiringuito hostel for the Sturgeon Full Moon White Party, playing Pop, House Music, Techno, Disco, and Funk.

Painting

My exploration of painting started in my last year of medical school when I felt the urge to buy canvas and paint supplies. But it was not until after graduation and living in Bantayan Island, Philippines for seven months did my passion for painting flourish. Inspired by meeting other artists on the island, I allowed the paintbrush to flow on the canvas, absolutely free from thinking. I felt the synergy and oneness within me once again and painted almost every single day. While overcoming so many changes in life and emotional challenges, I was able to find peace and alchemize my emotions through divine energy.

Poetry

With my father being a renowned poet, I felt writing and artistic expression was naturally encouraged. Throughout my life I would write poems if inspired, but it was during my time in Bantayan where I would write poems, often times with my paintings. I wrote poems of heartbreak, death, energy, God, and the physical experience of living in duality as an eternal spiritual being. Writing poetry was another medium for me to alchemize my emotions with divine energy and love.

Spirituality

As a multi-disciplinary artist, my creative pieces are based on my own spiritual metamorphosis of using art to alchemize life's challenges with God's pure divine energy. My artwork channels high vibrations of love and joyfulness through designing funky, positive, and joyful apparel, as well as creating inspired heart-centered art through poetry, dancing, painting, and DJing House Music and Techno. I hope my art inspires you to connect with your own heart and discover the beautiful loving journey that exists within you!

Medicine

As a healer, my medicinal wisdom comes from my ancestral roots in Cebu, Philippines, my own rich experiences in life, and the completion of both my Master's of Oriental Medicine and Doctor of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine degrees at the Pacific College of Health & Science in Chicago, Illinois of May 2023, as well as my Bachelor's of Science in Biological Sciences at DePaul University in 2008. Feeling a call to study Eastern Medicine, I learned several different styles of Acupuncture: Chinese, Japanese, Scalp, and Ortho-Needling. In addition, I studied TCM and Shang Han Lun methods of Chinese Herbal Medicine, as well as Western Medicine in order to provide the best quality patient care. As a Senior Intern, I treated over 400 patients for anxiety, depression, nervous system and musculoskeletal disorders, digestive issues, menstruation, skin, urinary incontinence, and many more complex cases. From 2011-2015, I was a volunteer in seven medical missions with my family in Tuburan, Davao City, Mananga, Guihulngan, Calagcalag, Dumaguete City, Talisay City, Car Car City, and Bantayan Island, Philippines in collaboration with Bisaya Medical Association in America and Philippine Medical Association in America.

My stylistic treatment approach is both intuitive and practical. I treat patients with kindness, openness, without any judgment, and with complete respectful acceptance. I actively listen and give presence to the patient with my full attention. With mindfulness, I then assess a patient's mind, body, and spirit through inquiry, observations, musculoskeletal tests, and body palpation. Based on the signs and symptoms that the patient exhibits, I am able to diagnose their pattern of imbalance and effectively treat them through Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and other modalities, such as Cupping, Gua Sha, and Tui Na. In addition, patient education and lifestyle changes, such as food nutrition, specific activities, and rest are given to the individual to help promote balance and healing both internally and externally.

In conclusion, it is my passion in life to combine art, medicine, and spirituality in order to align the mind, body, and spirit. As we cultivate self-love and inner peace, we expand our love within our hearts to others, thereby creating a more peaceful, harmonious, and loving world! Sending so much love and light to you all!

*Note & Disclaimer: I will be completing my NCCAOM licensing board exams for Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine by next year 2025. I will update everyone when I am able to officially practice and see patients. At this time, I am only able to provide information regarding Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and not any specific/customized treatment for patients. Thank you for your warm understanding and kind support!
